Lady Liberty

We've spent the last few weeks at work preparing for the Freedom Festival's big Gala, which is being held tonight in our ballroom.

We're serving 829 people and have 103 tables. Each of those tables has a centerpiece...her name is Lady Liberty.

Starting at the beginning of June, we started looking all over Utah Valley for silver, 12", foam board Statues of Liberty. My coworker and I drove to every craft, fabric, scrap booking, and teacher supply store in the area, and could not find them. (We were looking, because we had used them last year and knew they existed.)

Finally, we found them on the Internet, but instead of just purchasing the Ladies, we went ahead and purchased a kit to make the entire centerpiece. They came in about a week ago, and since then I've been working to get them together.

I asked why we didn't have a "creative" person doing the centerpieces, but I already knew the answer. Our wedding planner just got married and is on her honeymoon, and the other events coordinator who loves this sort of thing was doing girls' camp. So that left me to make 103 Lady Liberty centerpieces.

It took about three days, an uncounted number of glue sticks, and 20 crew members, but we got it done.

25 Ladies made their debut on Sunday at an event for Glenn Beck.

Tonight, the original 25 ladies and an additional 78 have hit the floor to dazzle and inspire the guests at the gala.

Wow! I'm really impressed! By the way...you wrote that you new they existed (not knew). Ha ha...I love finding spelling errors on your blog since you hate that! Are you sure you don't want to come to Cedar City with us tomorrow?

I am going to remember this. You have become quite the event coordinator! (I read the letter your boss sent to you...way to go!) You are a "get it done" kind of guy!

Yes, I must say that they were lovely centerpieces. And, I found you on here- thanks to you repetitively spelling it out during work today. You are so cool, Michaelna!
